 Runners: In Dan's Own Words

Runner Biography: Dan Moulton

Even calling this a "runner" biography feels a bit dishonest. 30 years ago, I could call myself a runner. However, I would be more honest today by calling myself a "walker."

Kristen and Heather 2008

Two years ago, my two daughters (Kristen and Heather), decided that they would take up running as part of a joint fitness program. As Kristen lives in Ottawa and Heather lives here in Calgary (Alberta, Canada), doing this as a joint venture posed some difficulties. Kristen's husband, Jordan, had also begun running and training for full marathons. Kristen would have a training partner. Heather, however, was mostly training by herself…

 Runners: Thoughts From Our Runners

Runner’s Blogs

My training continues on. Running in NY has been beautiful weather and I logging between 40 and 55 miles a week. I have just celebrated my 1 year anniversary of running. Twice in my adult life I started running and had to stop both times because of work and children. The last time I had to stop was over 15 years ago. When I stopped I promised myself I would at one point finish a marathon…

More Bio’s From TeamA

Amanda Skinner

I am the granddaughter of Noni (Marion Manzon) who had Alzheimer’s disease and am running in her honor. I am also a healthcare consultant, a former nurse-midwife, a Rice Owl and a Yalie, a runner since the age of 7 when my father got caught up in the ‘70’s running boom, and a bit of a hippie at heart. I am a wife, daughter, sister, auntie and friend and hope / aspire to be good at those roles above all others. I live in Connecticut with my amazing husband Kalter…

TeamA's "Long Distance" Runner

TeamAlzheimers has been very proud to have runners from all over the country. This year we even have a runner from the United Kingdom! Gavin has graciously offered us a little insight into why he has chosen to "cross the pond" to be a part of TeamAlzheimers.

Hi! I am Gavin Stoddart, and I live in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, UK. So - how come I am running for TeamAlzheimers in the Covered Bridges Half Marathon, supporting the sufferers from Alzheimers in Upper Valley, Vermont?? Well – perhaps a bit unusual, but the answer is really quite simple…

2010 TeamAlzheimers Runners

Once again, TeamAlzheimers was given 50 spots for runners to compete in the Covered Bridges Half-Marathon(CBHM) on Sunday, June 6, 2010.

Typically, TeamAlzheimers will get requests from those runners that were not able to get into Covered Bridges Half-Marathon(CBHM). Once registration opened, CBHM filled up with 2300 runners in less than 20 minutes.

This year, TeamAlzheimers had many runners return from last year along with many others requesting a spot, months in advance. By the time CBHM opened their registration, TeamAlzheimers had only a few spots left.

We are excited that so many runners wish to run on our team and raise money for so many programs and services that benefit those with Alzheimers.

Over the next several months, we will once again provide you with bios, thoughts, and feelings of our runners.

Inside is a list of all our runners…

 Runners: A RUNNER'S STORY

News

Our Lives Can Change So Quickly

Gail contacted me at the inception of TeamAlzheimers asking to be a part of the team. Her enthusiasm and love of life won me over immediately. I knew I wanted her on the team the first year and every year after.

The first year Gail was not able to train enough to do the race but still flew out here to volunteer for TeamAlzheimers.

Gail and I continued to stay in touch each year even when she couldn't make it to the race.

Last year was her first year that she was actually able to do the race and complete it. It was so incredible to see Gail cross that finish line! She was grinning from ear to ear and making plans for next year

It has been five months and Gail's life has been totally turned upside down.

In Gail's Own Words

It is so wonderful how God works in our lives to lead us in certain directions. A few years ago I was still a Police Sergeant with a desire to visit New England. I did a web search and found the Covered Bridges Half, I tried to register the regular way but found it filled up fast as usual that first year. I looked through the charities because I had done a Marathon in Ireland with Joints in Motion Arthritis Foundation years ago. I looked at your group and said I'd give it a try and I sent you an email. I was lead in that direction and now we know why…

Runners: THE REST OF THE STORY

News

Team Takoudes, The Whole Story

Team Alzheimers regretfully left out part of Team Takoudes' story. We are running it again in its entirety.

What we find striking about this and other stories from our runners is the devotion, dedication and commitment each member has.

Our parents, grandparents and other family members play a crucial role in our development. The roads we travel down and the choices we make are all based on values instilled in us from an early age.

The accomplishments of this family are a fine example of the lives shaped by their parents.

Runners: WE HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE

News

Here is another note from one of our runners that says so much!

I never got a chance to sit down and write a proper "Thank You" note to you after the race. Well, thank you for letting me to be a TA member. It really made a difference in communicating with my father in-law. Instead of keeping silence he is more ready to talk about the ups and downs of mom. On the day of the race mom K had a particular bad day. She was not recognizing him at all. When my husband told him about the race he really perked up. He said that in a way he felt that he was fighting back.

Thank you again.

Sabrina
