Mom's Needlework

In less than 3 weeks, we will be running our half marathon for TeamAlzheimers. Once again the time has gone by so quickly. I find it so hard to believe we are ready to run again!

I will be visiting mom this weekend, the last time until after my run. I will tell her about my run and that I am doing this for her. Each mile, I will be thinking about mom…

The Agonizing Mind Games Of Alzheimer's

By Kathy Tyrer

"Do you have a boyfriend?" he asked me. He was about 84 years old and interested in a date.

Sitting before him with my young son on my lap, I gave him the bad news: "No, but I have a husband and two kids. And I am your daughter, Dad..."

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

On this Mother's Day, we thank God for mothers everywhere who push, prod, and prepare us to jump higher than our head, reach farther than our grasp, love wider than our years.

Thank you Mom for teaching me to do all this and more, I love you and miss you dearly...

Mysterious Ways

As told by Brenda Roper

I stopped by my mother’s house to water the plants while she was in the nursing home. The doctors had told me to prepare for the worse. But surrounded by her possessions-the photographs, the vase on the dining room table, the throw on the sofa-everything seemed reassuringly unchanged, as if Mom could just walk through the door, her old self again…

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY

By: Stephanie Oda

I was born and raised in Ireland, and for the first ten years of my life I lived in my grandmother’s farmhouse. How I loved that house! Every inch of it reflected my beloved grandmother’s taste and talents, from the delicate lace curtains she wove to the splendid patchwork quilts she made from scraps of cotton. I always thought of the farmhouse as home, and after I moved to America, vacations to Ireland included long visits with Grandma…

The Human Touch

By Pam Kidd

Years ago, when I was a young woman, I had a job in a nursing home in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was not easy work. Many of the patients were difficult, and some even scared me with their incoherent railings. One stormy night, as the wind howled and lightning streaked across the sky, I was in an elevator when the lights blinked and the elevator groaned to a stop. I held my breath, terrified. Then the elevator lurched upward, the lights came on, and I was safe on the next floor…

Thought of the Day From My Daily Calendar

At long last, I was ready to run. For years, I’d toyed with the idea of running as a good way to get some exercise, but now I’d actually gone out and bought a spiffy running outfit. I’d even asked my husband, Gene, to help me pick out proper running shoes. Hoping that I looked the part, I stepped outside and smelled the morning air…

Some of you are too young to remember some of this stuff, but some of us remember it like it was yesterday and long for some of the simpler things in life especially as we grow older.

Enjoy the memories!

One Minute Devotion

As I read my devotion daily calendar, I try to keep in mind what this web-site is about and how we get through each day; some more difficult than others. I know the words I read help me so much and guide me along.

So many things that we do in life affect others. Some will tell us, some will not. I also know that I try to live my life and treat others as I would like to be treated.

I hope you enjoy this story…
